Official warning

Unexpected investment offers are causing heavy losses

Fraudsters are using polished adverts, social posts and fake trading platforms to promise unusually high returns.

How it works

A convincing advert or message leads to a fake adviser or platform. Early results may be fabricated to encourage larger payments before withdrawals are blocked.

A message might say

This private opportunity is only open today. Start small and watch your profits grow immediately.

Warning signs

  • Guaranteed or unusually high returns
  • Pressure to act quickly or keep the offer private
  • A firm or adviser cannot be confirmed on the FCA register

What to do

  1. 1Ignore investment approaches you did not ask for
  2. 2Check the firm independently using the FCA Firm Checker
  3. 3Never allow remote access to your phone or computer
