Official warning
Unexpected investment offers are causing heavy losses
Fraudsters are using polished adverts, social posts and fake trading platforms to promise unusually high returns.
How it works
A convincing advert or message leads to a fake adviser or platform. Early results may be fabricated to encourage larger payments before withdrawals are blocked.
A message might say
“This private opportunity is only open today. Start small and watch your profits grow immediately.”
Warning signs
- ●Guaranteed or unusually high returns
- ●Pressure to act quickly or keep the offer private
- ●A firm or adviser cannot be confirmed on the FCA register
What to do
- 1Ignore investment approaches you did not ask for
- 2Check the firm independently using the FCA Firm Checker
- 3Never allow remote access to your phone or computer
